A Performing Arts Podcast
Interviews challenging and flipping the script on the harmful norms we're told to put up with as performers.
About The Show
If you've ever trained or worked at a drama school, then you've probably heard the saying "we break you down and then build you back up again"
And If you've never heard that phrase before, then you're probably thinking about how toxic it sounds.
Sayings like this are the reason why so many performers struggle not just during training, but also in their professional career, it promotes the idea that we need to destroy ourselves in order to be seen as commited and worthy of praise.
And the worst part? It's considered normal.
Well, I call bullsh*t.
Build Without Breaking sits down with industry professionals to talk about how it actually feels to do what we do, and through honest conversations that cover traumatic training experiences to humorous on-set anecdotes, challenge all of the harmful norms we have always been told are 'just a part of the industry' and come up with newer, better ways of working to replace them with.
